There’s no two ways about it, moving house is arduous.

Whether you have a room or a whole house you’re moving, you’re still going to have to spend some serious time with cardboard boxes, packing paper and sticky tape. Naturally, the more times you move, the better you get at it.

However, unless you’ve had the pleasure and pain of moving house 10 times, you’re not going to know the tips and tricks. Read on to find out how you can learn from our mistakes and avoid the common moving hazards.

  • Always pay for a professional bond clean

When it’s time to move out and your lease is up, only on thing is for certain: you want your bond money back. Unfortunately, it’s near impossible to get the entirety of your bond money back if you attempt the clean yourself. That’s why I hired Whizz for my end of lease cleaning in Melbourne. Take away the stress, the pain and the effort of doing an impeccable clean by hiring a professional that you know will get the job done right.

  • Choose a reliable mover

Of course, there is more than one way to move.

Depending on the size of your home, the distance of the move, your budget, and the amount of time you have to get yourself situated, you might choose to rent a truck and move yourself, hire a mover to do the job, or use a ‘you pack; we drive’ service. Usually, the latter is the most commonly used. However if you do have fragile items, we encourage you to read the next point carefully!

  • Pack fragile items yourself

Enlisting the help of a mover can be a godsend.

However, there’s not much point if you get to your new home and all your valuables are smashed or cracked. Removalists don’t know what’s inside the boxes you’ve packed – and even if you’ve been clear, they may not remember to treat these items as gingerly as you do. Therefore, you’re going to need bubble wrap, newspaper, packing boxes and a tape gun to properly pack all your beloved belongings.

As well as this, it’s advisable that you move the most fragile items yourself. Just pop them safely in your car for both peace of mind and to ensure they get to your new destination safely.

  • Enlist help of friends or family

Many hands make light work of a heavy load!

Don’t be too proud to ask your loved ones for help, and offer them a small token of thanks in return: food, wine, whatever takes your fancy. Moving 10 boxes down a flight of stairs is going to take a fraction of the time and effort if you have a couple of friends helping you out. And next time your friends move, you can help them out, too!

Moving house, although grueling, is ultimately leading you to greener pastures. Moving into a shiny, new house; getting to nest in a fresh space; creating a new home aesthetic for yourself – the positives are endless. However, the actual tasks of moving house can be exhausting if you don’t have your wits about you. Don’t make the moving process any more difficult than it needs to be; take heed of these 4 top tips when next rethinking your place of residence.
