Closet classics & timeless trends

We all know that horrible sinking feeling when you have somewhere to be and you haven’t got

anything to wear. And if my wardrobe is anything to go by, I don’t have stacks and stacks of

designer dresses on a ‘Clueless’ style carousel to choose from. Therefore, it’s crucial to invest in key designer classics to allow for all occasions. Here are my five timeless closet trends, which will help any woman in a time of need.

  1. The Little Black Dress

The most valuable and iconic designer dress is the little black dress; it’s been a safety net for

women worldwide for decades. My crush right now is this LBD from Dion Lee II that I found on

Frockaholics.com it is such a classic fit, but with a saucy twist with its deep V and thigh-high side splits… naughty! I think it would be perfect for all LBD occasions, teamed with a chunky necklace.

  1. The Blazer

I’ve recently bought a black Beaumont LS Blazer, and I literally live in this boyfriend jacket. I’ve

styled it up with a beautiful dress and heels after work, but I’ve also dressed it down with a plain

white tee, skinny jeans and ballet flats. It is my go-to item when creating a chic casual or classic

look. Similar to a boyfriend, this blazer for me is reliable and also gives me comfort in situations

when I’m not 100% sure what to wear. Effortless fashion is a woman’s best friend.

  1. A Pair of Brogues

Although I love the look of my legs in killer high heels, I’m also realistic, and know I don’t always

like my resting bitch face in them. There is certainly a time and place for those awesome beauties, but when you’re going to a working lunch or catching up with friends in the city, it’s important to look after your feet and your soul with a classic pair of flats. These for me are my brogues, as they’re super stylish but also practical, which is how I like to describe myself. I get stuff done but with an Audrey Hepburn flair (okay maybe not always) and the Sol Sana Chippy Brogues are definitely on my wish list; sleek but androgynously sexy.

  1. The Black Pant

The Le Smoking Tuxedo YSL image pops into my head when I think of classic black pants, as they are so versatile. You can dress them up for those chic after work drinks, but also throw them with a classic white tee and slip on platforms for early morning market strolls teamed with a long black and a hazy mind. Both graceful and effortlessly cool.

  1. A Classic Piece of Statement Jewelry

As well as these key wardrobe items, I also couldn’t live without my statement jewelry; a bold necklace and a bold lip goes a long way when you need to change the look of an outfit. Peter Lang is one of my favorite jewelry designers; whenever I wear one of his necklaces I can’t help but feel like Rose from Titanic. Statement jewellery certainly adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

I think the key thing to remember is that timeless fashion is most certainly about quality over quantity, and these key pieces will certainly start you off in creating that classic style, and they will never leave you with that anxious feeling just before a first date or a sales pitch. By investing in these signature styles, and planning the rest of your closet around these looks, it means that you’ll never be caught out again.
