The basics?

Add pops of color, personalize your space and remember, the simpler the better.

We don’t want any clashing of decor!

Enjoy our 8 decorating tips to make your college apartment better!

  1. Tapestries

Tapestries are a fantastic way to add color to any room!

They come in a variety of sizes, colors, and patterns –

And are fairly inexpensive.

Society 6 has thousands of super-cool tapestries.

Designed by artists from around the world, you can find whatever you’re looking for.

There are designs with animals, pop culture references, tribal designs, and more.

The best part about them is that you can find lots that will match your other decor.

Tapestries will become the focal point of any room, since they stand out so much.

You can also find tapestries for your apartment on Amazon!

  1. Candles

One of my favorite additions to any room is a nice-smelling candle.

It can really change the mood of the room and set the tone for your guests to become more relaxed!

Plus, it’s the perfect thing to accompany your cozy night in.

Some favorite candles are vanilla and lavender.
If you really want to get fancy with it, you can even make your own candles!

Personalize the scent to your preference –

It’s not that difficult to DIY them either!

  1. Canvases

Okay –

This is where you really show off your personality to your guests!

You can choose an inspirational saying for your canvas, a sassy one, or a cute one.

There are so many options of canvases on Etsy to decorate your living room or bedroom.

There is lots of inspo on Pinterest that you can look out and even re-create!

Our advice?

If you have a big, blank wall in your living room, make a canvas wall –

Filled with simple canvases of different shapes and sizes that all work together.

You’ll have your guests in awe of how stunning your room looks!

  1. Pictures

You could also do a picture wall of framed photos.

A photo wall is nostalgic, creates conversation topics and is filled with comfort.

Being surrounded by family and friends, especially when you are in college, is priceless.

You can also add photos to your bedroom –

Using traditional frames, or string and clothespins!

The latter is an easy idea that makes you look more crafty than you actually are –

Minimal effort, extra cute!

Another way to make your college apartment better is to use twinkly lights with the photos –

String the lights above the photos on a string, and your wall will be light and bright.

Share photos from high school, good times in your sorority, or throwbacks from when you were younger.

  1. Throw Pillows

A great addition to your living room or bedroom is a throw pillow.

There are so many great designs and colors of pillows!

And if you’re in Greek life, you can add sorority pillows as an accent item to your couch or comforter!

Pillows can help tie the room decor together.

My favorite place to buy throw pillows is Home Goods –

They have so many colors that will add to your room.

They are a super-easy way to show your personality off to your guests –

With a cute, funky, or quote pillow design.

  1. Wall Calendar

There are so many fun wall calendars that you can buy anywhere –

Target, Amazon, or your local bookstore.

Find a calendar with puppies or cool places in the world to flip through when the new month rolls around.

You can also get a calendar for your fridge, that organizes you and your roommates’ schedules.

Have a chore or cleaning schedule?

Put it on the calendar in your kitchen!

It is super easy to keep track of everyone’s schedules this way.

  1. Painted Mason Jars

Repurpose the mason jars you use for drinks, for storage!

Paint the mason jars different colors or with designs on them –

Use for makeup brush storage, pencils or pens.

This is a perfect DIY project to do with your new roommates, or during a night in.

Crafting really brings out your creative side, and makes your apartment feel more personal because you made some of the decor in it!

  1. Patterned Rugs

This is another perfect way to make your college apt. better –

With a big, patterned rug.

Use in your living room or bedroom for a pop of color.

It ties all of the decor together in a nice way –

And is something you can keep for a long time to decorate future apartments.

Make sure your decor does not clash, though!

We hope your college apartment gets a little facelift with these design tips!
